Miraculous Medal

Someone once told me if a person is wearing a cross and a medallion, chances are they are Catholic *grin
(This of course after meeting me and seeing my own cross and medallion around my neck)

A friend of mine from church gave me a Miraculous Medal (that is literally what it's called) and I never understood what it meant..
I mean, I knew Catholics carried medals with them of the various saints etc for various reasons, like St Christopher is to help protect travellers, St Anthony is to help people find things...etc.

So I decided to look up online as to what in the world did my medal mean...
And when I looked at it, I realised that it really has indeed touched my life the way its supposed to...(Info from here: http://www.medjugorje-online.com/miraculousmedal.php)

Miraculous Medal

The Blessed Mother appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in Paris and asked her to have this medal struck and distributed.

For the past century, the Miraculous Medal has been the most popular medal of all time.

The apparition happened in 1830. When the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure, she granted her a vision of the Miraculous Medal, front and back, and she said, "All who wear them will receive great graces."

The back of the Miraculous Medal features an "M" joined with a cross, as well as two hearts which are said to signify the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

These powerful words frame the front of the pendant: O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Why should you and your loved ones wear Miraculous Medals?

The Virgin Mary promises protection from evil for those who wear one. It is also a powerful sign of devotion.

Just Me

Wandering aimlessly
Through time and space
No map, no compass
No one for company
Just me

Lonely solitude?
Personal quiet time?
Different names
Different times
Just me

Surrounded by company
Desired but untouchable
Abundant but unreachable
So near yet so far
Just you

It's a SIGN I tell you!

My event co-ordinator who did up my ROM dinner beautifully, after my ROM dinner, went to Swissotel Merchant Court because he was given a better offer there but chose to stay till he at least saw thru my dinner (which I truly appreciated).

Last night, I decided to try my luck and see whether I can have my wedding lunch at Merchant Court since it would be more convenient for our guests after the church wedding and with Central now above Clarke Quay MRT, at least they got somewhere to hang around before the lunch itself if they are early. When sending the email, I didn't know whether I should request for my ex co-ordinator or not. But figured since I was just getting a quotation, there was no need.

This morning, I got a reply and I saw a very familiar name in the "cc" section. Now I don't know if he remembered my name or whether it was a coincidence but his assistant was the one that responsed to my email and now I got his direct line and direct work email. (At the previous place, it was sent to the general email and they would print out my email and put it in his "IN" tray)

I was so tickled pink that I told my mom.
Price wise for next year's wedding lunch packages are pretty good and similar to what we're prepared to pay for anyway (much to my surprise) but more imptly, WE MEET THE MIN TABLE REQUIREMENT!!!

It's a SIGN I tell you!!
I was hoping that we can have it there, then that way, it's easier to find a place to have our post wedding party.

*fingers crossed

I was joking with my mom, I get to bully my co-ordinator again!!
Muahahaha..

Actually, I am more concerned about making sure things run smoothly, hence my desire to use back my old co-ordinator. So now that I've found him, I had to send him an email to disturb him....*grins Hopefully now, he will have less stress....or at least until he finds out who my mom knows there *grins

But I'm happy!!!

Sunday Christians or Everyday Nightmares?

Disclaimer: The author, like the rest of the readers, is entitled to her own opinions and will not tolerate blasting of opinions and the author will delete comments at her own discretion.

Every Sunday when I go for mass with my hubby, I make it a point to get there early for the simple fact that the timing is quite popular and the church is catering to a very large parish...

Now as anyone can tell you, where you have LOADS of people, and a "not so large" doorway, add in the kiasu (or scared to lose) society we live in, and you get a human jam...from getting the holy water before leaving, to just leaving the chapel...the worse thing? Getting PUSHED and SHOVED along the way while trying to be nice to others who are also trying to pass...

Even getting on the bus was a hassle...the worse is when the elderly push and shove u from behind. Once I got so pissed off, I turned around and told the lady, "DO U MIND?!" Needless to say, I got stared at by the people around me, whether it was looks of sheer shock, or "how dare u?", I quite frankly didn't care..To me, just coz you're old, doesn't meant the world owes you a living.

While on the bus going to the MRT station, I told him that I'm starting to wonder why do people go to church? I mean, even before they leave church, they've already seemed to have forgotten everything. I mean, I see parishoners leave even before the priest does! I mean, HALLOooo.....rude much?! *sigh

He just looked at me, shrugged his shoulders coz he knows that he didn't have the ans either. All he did was say that as long as we were going for the right reasons, that was the impt things and we kinda left it at that.

Then while waiting to get on the feeder bus to go to IMM from Jurong East, there was this mom who ENCOURAGED her kids to CUT the queue when everyone was queuing nicely....I loudly saracastically said something and another mom behind me did the same thing, after I had said that and I knew she heard! I was really losing my temper coz the bus was crowded enough as it was, and you are just encourging your kids to be RUDE! My hubby also had enough and told the lady and her kids,"Can you please queue up?!" and mind you, his tone when he's pissed off is wwwaayyy harsher than mine. Mine is just plain bitchy. She actually stared at my hubby and told her kids to ignore him.

EXCUSE ME?!?! U were cutting queue, TEACHING your kids to do the same, someone tells you to queue up and you tell your kids to ignore him?! Then again, I don't blame her...What parent wants to be upstaged by a stranger esp when the latter is obviously right?

While on the bus, which was already packed like crazy, I was commenting to my hubby that I was losing my sacrastic touch, he calmly looked at me and said, what makes you think they understand? Very bitchy and mean, I know but HALLO?!?! Let's be honest, if you were in my position, what would u do? Then when the bus was reaching the destination, this FAT (I am not even going to bother to mince or "beautify" my words) lady pushed and shoved her way to make room for her kids to get off...and mind you, there were like at least another 6-7 people she would have to get through. N naturally she poked and shoved me while trying to do that. N naturally I got more irritated...

Luckily the bus stopped soon and we alighted unscathed.

I commented to my hubby that if I am so impatient and all, why am I studying to become a counsellor? He said that from what he's observed so far, I am impatient regarding things related to me directly. Things that don't affect me directly, I am fine...

Which I got to admit, has some truth to it.
Just like any Singaporean, much as I hate to admit it, I hate to wait.
I walk fast, I (dunno if I still do) talk fast, I don't eat as fast as I used to but then again, I can be so caught up in doing something, I can don't eat the whole day.

Sunday Christians...this term is something that I've been exposed to for a long time ever since I went to a mission school...warnings about not falling into that trap...etc. Unfortunately, I think now it's progressed to "Sunday Mass-ers" considering those who don't even have the courtesy to stay until at least the priest has left the chapel. And of course, let's not forget those who leave right after communion...

But everyday we face people like that...on our way to work, during lunch, during office hours, after office hours, sometimes even at home!
It's amazing how we all haven't gone mad yet...
Personally, I think the age has come where it's no longer an issue about "Sunday Christians" but more about "Everyday Nightmares"
After all, not everyone goes to church and it's not fair to let the rest of the world off now is it?
